The S-100 Course Content Is As Follows:

Helicopter Operations: Working around helicopters is very frequent in forest firefighting.  The S-100 course will cover field operations such as loading, slinging, and general safety around a helicopter.  

Water Bombing Operations: Water Bombing is a very dangerous aspect of firefighting therefore students are taught the proper and safe manner of working with these operations. 

Fire Behavior: Fire behavior is described as: the manner in which fuel ignites, flame develops, fire spreads and exhibits other related phenomena by the interaction of fuels, weather and topography. 

Burnout Operations: "Fight Fire With Fire," Burnout; a tactic used in forest firefighting to remove the fuel ahead of a raging wildfire.  Learn how, where, and why such a tactic is used. 

Hand Tools: Hand tools such as shovels, axes, pulaskies, and back pack pumps are used for numerous tasks in forest firefighting. 

Radio Operations: Communications are a necessity when working in remote locations and contentions situations.  Learn the proper radio etiquette and how to operate the hand held radio used for firefighting in Ontario. 

Hose Laying & Water Application: Effective fire suppression tactics relies on a well organized systematic approach to hose laying.  The effective application of water can greatly aid the firefighter in containing and extinguishing any fire. 

Personal Safety On The Fireline: In any forest fire situation there are physical and environmental conditions that will affect your personal safety and the safety of your co-workers. 

Power Pump Set-Up: The Mark 3 power pump is one of the main suppression tools used in Forestry today.  It is very important to know how to properly set-up, operate and retrieve a power pump efficiently.  

Mop-Up Principles: After a control line has been constructed and the fire has been called under control, usually more work is required to make the control line safe and to ensure the fire is totally extinguished. 

Fireline Patrol And Observations: Learn numerous observation techniques as well as to recognize fire safe areas and escape routes.
